The body of a Newcastle woman who went missing two weeks ago has been found on a beach in South Wales.
Dyfed Powys police confirmed the body of MaryAnn Cooke was found on North Beach, in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, at 9.50am on Monday.
Formal identification has taken place and her family has been notified, police said.
The 63 year old was last seen on June 9 when she left her Oakfield Gardens home, the Benwell area, before taking a taxi to Newcastle Central Station.
Welsh police appealed for information regarding possible sightings of MaryAnn between 5.50am and 8.30am on Monday morning and it is believed she had been visiting the town at the time of her death.
A spokeswoman added: “It is believed that she was wearing a green coat and was carrying a rucksack or similar holdall.
“It is also known that she was seen wearing a flowered blouse, black leggings, black ‘Ugg style’ boots and black T shirt under her blouse.”
MaryAnn, also known as Maryam, was known to be a church goer and has previously attended St Joseph’s Church in Benwell.
A statement released by police said: “Dyfed Powys Police can now confirm that the body has been identified as Maryam Cooke, 63 years old, from Newcastle.
