Bill Hauber / APBrad Pitt talks about his plan to build homes in the Lower 9th Ward Monday. Pitt is launching his latest project to build affordable, environmentally friendly homes in the area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The hot pink tents represent where eco friendly houses will be built.

There’s so much going on this week! “America’s Got Talent” wants you to show off for them, you can give your child acting classes for the holidays, and Jack Black’s coming to Louisiana. Not to mention Brad Pitt cured our case of the Mondays and Britney’s latest assistant is a bit too shady for our liking.

Are you Romanian? If so, the Sci Fi channel is looking for you! They’re working on a show and need genuine Romanian accents for voiceover positions. You don’t have to have voiceover experience, but they would prefer older male and female voices. This is a half day job in Baton Rouge and you will be paid. If you’re Romanian and interested, send them an email.

NBC’s hit show, “America’s Got Talent”, is coming to New Orleans in February for an open casting event. The show is welcoming all professional and semi professional acts, whether you have an agent/manager/record deal or not, to email them to make an appointment for your audition. You won’t have to wait in line for hours to be seen and, if chosen, you will appear on a show with 13 million weekly viewers. Make sure to include in your e mail your name, contact information, a description of your act, and a picture. Go show America what kind of talent we’ve always know New Orleans has!

If your child is interested in acting classes, local actress, Megan Brown, is offering workshops to kids and teens. Megan will discuss topics like making and applying “actable choices”, listening, cold reads, and behavior. and will cost $50 each. You can call (813) 690 2230 to register.

Sony’s “The Year One” is seeking local actors and extras this Saturday, December 8 at a casting call at Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City. If you’re even remotely interested then you should definitely check it out as it almost promises to be a great time. Jack Black stars in the movie as does Michael Cera who was recently in “Superbad” and was in one of the best television shows, “Arrested Development”. If you can’t make it to the casting call, you can register here or give them a call at (267) 295 7838. Make sure to bring a head shot, but if you don’t have one, they’ll take one while you’re there. If you missed it, you must be living under a rock because Brad was everywhere. He was doing interviews on CNN, the Today show, the local news, everywhere. Whether you like him or not, you can’t be disgruntled with the fact that Mr. Pitt is trying to do some good and is keeping New Orleans on everyone’s minds. He’s even said that his acting is becoming less of a focus and that his primary goal right now is to rebuild New Orleans. Monday’s interviews were about the new Make It Right architectural project which hopes to build 150 “green” houses in the Lower 9th Ward. Only one of the houses has its roof on so far and the others, which are currently covered in bright pink tarps, will be completed once the $150,

000 a piece is raised to complete the project. Pitt has already donated $5 million of his own money to the project. Driving tours of the pink covered dwellings are now allowed and encouraged. You can check out the Make It Right website to learn more about the project and to purchase merchandise that will help finance and promote such a wonderful mission. You can also check out the about the Make It Right Project and Brad’s visit.

Ellen Degeneres is also doing some charitable work this holiday season for Ugg Australia’s fifth annual Art and Sole Collection. The comedian has painted and signed a pair of Ugg boots that will be auctioned off by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 100% of the net proceeds from the auction will go to St. Jude’s. Other celebrities to paint a pair of the famous sheep skin boots are Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Ripa, Liv Tyler, Miley Cyrus (the actress that plays Hanna Montana), and Eva Longoria. Each celebrity painted with the word ‘hope’ as their muse. You can bid on a pair of boots until December 14th here.

In other, less exciting news, rapper Lil Wayne of Cash Money Records was seen last Saturday in Beverly Hills at the grand opening of Ed Hardy’s, a tattoo inspired clothing and accessories store. Lil Wayne was seen drinking out of three stacked Styrofoam cups, which he’s been photographed doing often recently. Someone should definitely let him know that Styrofoam’s terrible for the environment and he should switch to a reusable glass!

Finally, as we do at the end of Snapshot, we come to Britney Spears. The pop wreck turned 26 this past weekend and spent her birthday partying with Paris Hilton and was photographed drinking late into Saturday morning. She then spent the day with her children. First off, isn’t she not allowed to drink within twelve hours of spending time with her kids? Why does nothing seem to happen when she breaks the court appointed rules? Secondly, I thought Britney was done hanging out with Paris! This is not a step in the right direction.

Speaking of a poor choice in friends, Britney’s latest assistant, Osama Lutfi, is pretty much a bad seed. Brit’s family is reportedly concerned because the film producer, who Britney calls “Sam,” has had two restraining orders filed against him for violent verbal and physical attacks. Sam has also been known to use several aliases and isn’t so much a film producer as a $350 a week assistant, according to US Weekly. Call me crazy, but I think that Britney’s poor choice in friends might just turn around and slap her in the face at some point.

Despite having shot her own music video last week for her new single, “Piece of Me”, Britney and MTV want you to take a shot at making your own video. All you have to do is go to MTV’s Video Remixer site and use video clips to arrange your vision for the new video. You can also check out some of the competition. If chosen, your video will premier on TRL on December 20th.

As for the video that Britney actually shot last week, her record label didn’t seem to have much faith in her. After Britney had rescheduled the shoot a few times and was having a conflict due to the fact that the final date she scheduled it for was a day that she was supposed to spend with her children, Jive Records came up with a backup plan named Samantha Jade. Samantha, an 18 year old former model and up and coming pop singer, is also on Jive Records. Because Britney’s video shoot was so expensive, Jive didn’t want to just scrap it if she didn’t show up. Instead, they had Samantha on standby and figured that, should Brit not appear, they’d just rework the set and dancers and film the video for Samantha’s latest single “Eyes on Me”. Upon hearing that a younger pop star was prepared to jump in at any time, Britney finally showed up to her shoot, though TMZ is reporting that she was twelve hours late. I wouldn’t have waited that long before I gave the shoot over to Samantha Jade.

For now, I hope that some of you help New Orleans by buying some merchandise from the Make It Right website and take a tour of the Lower 9th Ward,

Prosecutor Fiona Harman revealed some of the background to the case but details of exactly what happened to Miss Mack moments before she died could not be reported for legal reasons.

“On March 27 Miss Mack was struck and killed by a train at Hythe level crossing in Colchester,” she told the court.

“The barrier affording protection to both vehicles and pedestrians had been lowered at the crossing in order to allow the 18.56pm London Liverpool Street to Clacton train to pass the Hythe station this being a non stopping train.

“The defendant proceeded onto the track via the public entrance and trespassed across the railway track whilst on the other side of the lines the defendant beckoned the deceased to join him.

“Witnesses say she proceeded in some manner across the crossing only to get stuck, we believe the heel of her boot got stuck, in wooden slats positioned at either side of the road to deter trespassers.

“Two witnesses who were waiting to cross when safe to do so, worked together to rescue the deceased from mortal danger.”

They themselves went onto the line to pull her free.

“They did this putting their own lives at risk seeing the oncoming train.”

Last week one of those who helped to free Miss Mack claimed that after she had been freed she had been told to run across the tracks by her boyfriend.

Investigation: Police gather at the scene where the woman had been trapped

Jonathan Smith, aged 18, claimed that seconds before being struck by the train Miss Mack had been “safe” and he added: “I had her in my arms, she was safe.

“But her boyfriend screamed at her to get to the other side. I said : ‘Stay on this side.’

“But he said: ‘This is my train. I’ve got to be on this side of the track,’ and so she tried to cross.”

Trevor Linn, defending Palmer , said he considered the incident “a tragic accident,” adding: “In our respectful submission this was a tragic accident as reported in the press by Inspector Pearce of British Transport police.”

He added that while manslaughter carries a maximum life sentence he believed it would be difficult to prove in his client’s case.

The lawyer told magistrates that Palmer had lived in Essex for 25 years and had two children with Miss Mack.

Magistrates then refused to grant Palmer bail and he was remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on June 23.

While none of Miss Mack’s relatives attended the court hearing her parents have left a touching message at the scene of the tragedy, which reads:

“For Kelly our darling daughter sleep in peace, love Mum and Dad.”

uggs mini Boulder gets dishonored as the 40th worst

The title isn’t surprising to most Boulder residents, like Madison Parker, 20. Originally from Vacaville, Calif., Parker said that Boulder’s style is less prissy and more comfy.

“People dress like granola,” she said. “But Boulder has its own style how can you judge it?”

“We’re like the least obese state in the country,” Parker said. “We are that way because we’re active, so we wear outdoor clothes. We wouldn’t be that way if we walked around in stilettos all day.”

The magazine acknowledges how fit local residents are, calling Boulder the “worst dressed city that looks the best naked.”

Some business owners have noticed the lack of fashionable options for the outdoors lovers, like Kim Walker, who didn’t understand why women couldn’t look good while being active. So in 2002, she opened Outdoor Divas, an active gear and apparel shop for women.

“Boulder might not be best dressed, but we’re cutting edge in active apparel,” Walker said.

At her store, she’s been working to provide functional designs that are also more fashion forward.

“It might not look good on Fifth Avenue, but it’ll look good on the hiking trail,” she said.

Whatever the reasons behind Boulder’s clothing options, there are still those few eclectic people who establish the city’s quirky reputation, said Alex Maxfield, 19, from Boulder.

‘Charles, 24, works at dad’s law firm, drives a Prius and likes cocaine’: Bored store employee hilariously imagines the lives of potential customers based on the SHOES they might buy

A shoe salesperson posted photos of various pairs of shoes on social media earlier this week with superimposed captionsFor each pair of shoes, they imagined a character who is presumed to be the typical person who would be tempted to purchase the shoesA pair of grey Ugg boots was deemed to belong to a 19 year old called Kristynne, who ‘likes boy bands and tacos’ and ‘calls her father Daddy’Elegant low boots, meanwhile, were branded as belonging to ‘Simon, 26’, a ‘tall, dark’ man who ‘writes moody poetry’ and ‘has more sex than you’By

Sounds fun: One of the characters invented by the Imgur user is a 49 year old woman named Crystal with short spiky hair and a taste for well done steak

Ghostify, who published his shots in two separate galleries under the title If The Shoe Fits, provided a simple explanation as to why they were driven to launch the creative project, writing simply: ‘Got bored at work.’

For each imaginary character, Ghostify provided a name, an age, as well as several character traits.

Among the wonderfully descriptive captions, a pair of grey Ugg boots was deemed to belong toa 19 year old called Kristynne, who ‘likes boy bands and tacos’, ‘tried whisky once, threw upand ‘calls her father Daddy’.

Crocs, on the other hand, were described as being fit for Chance, 17, who is ‘big boned, bit of a bully’ and ‘wears cutoff shirts’ while loving his four wheeler.

Backstory: The Imgur user could picture these black loafers in the wardrobe of 53 year old Patricia, who is waiting for retirement and stuck in an unhappy marriage

At the opposite end of the spectrum, some work appropriate shoes were considered ideal for Charles, 24, who ‘works for his dad’s law firm, drive a Prius, went to Duke’, and enjoys cocaine.

Meanwhile,
black uggs uk Bored Imgur retail employee imagines lives of shoe buyers
a pair of mint green sneakers were made out to belong to Veronica, a 32 year old who likes to try a new diet every six months, ‘has a C section scar and does Pilates on Wednesdays’ while spending her entire time in sports bras.

Ghostify also encountered elegant ankle boots, which they imagined were made for 26 year old Simeon, a ‘tall, dark’ man who ‘writes moody poetry’, ‘has more sex than you’, ‘wears scarves’ and ‘has an emotional connection to a band he “discovered.” ‘

As for a pair of wedge mules, the Imgur user posited they belonged to Carol, a 60 year old woman who ‘calls your sweetheart’, ‘always sends you home with leftovers’, ‘volunteers at book drives’ and ‘cooks a mean casserole’.

Bro: Ghostify thought these brown shoes would work well for 23 year old Brad, a business graduate and beer pong aficionado who likes to pop his collar

In a different style, flat black sandals were apparently the perfect pick for Krista, 52, who has ‘wild hair’ and a ‘sunflower ankle tattoo’, identifies as a ‘cool mom’, enjoys gardening, and advocates in favor of recreational marijuana.

Ghostify was equally inspired by comfortable looking sandals, which he imagined belonged to 58 year old John, a grandfather who likes fishing and loves his wife, tells ‘pull my finger’ jokes and lets his grandchildren eat ice cream after his wife has gone to bed.

Perhaps John’s son was Carter, a 45 year old ‘cool dad’ and according to Ghostify the typical owner of a pair of flip flops, who manages to stay ‘perpetually tan’, ‘summers at the lake house with the kids’, and ‘treats his Golden Retriever like family’.

A pair of camo sneakers, meanwhile, were described as belonging to Sarah, 27, who ‘always has dark circles under eyes’ and ‘has a kid in another state she’s saving up to care for’.

discount ugg slippers Boots is CUTTING the cost of razors and eye cream after a ‘sexist pricing’ petition

ugg boots shops Boots is CUTTING the cost of razors and eye cream after a ‘sexist pricing’ petition

Boots has revealed it will be cutting the cost of razors and eye cream after a ‘sexist pricing’ petition showed women are charged more than men for bathroom essentials

She called on Boots chief executive Simon Roberts to ‘review your sexist pricing’.

In a statement on the Boots website, the company said it had never operated a pricing system that discriminated against women ‘so we were surprised and disappointed to see recent examples in the press that did not reflect our own standards’.

It said: ‘We immediately conducted a review on all Boots own brand and proprietary ranges to better understand the cited examples. This review has reassured us that for Boots own brands the two reported examples, Boots disposable razors and Botanics eye roll on, are indeed exceptional cases which do not completely meet our principles and we are taking action to correct these prices.

‘Following the review of Boots own brand ranges, we are speaking to our suppliers to ask them to conduct similar reviews of their brands, however we cannot comment further on their pricing that would be a matter for the brands themselves.’

The petition also revealed that Boots eye cream was 9.99 for women, left, and 7.29 for men, right

Last month The Times newspaper released findings that the cost of clothes, beauty products and toys for females are routinely higher than equivalent items pitched at males.

Across all products with different prices, those aimed at women were 37 per cent higher on average, the newspaper said.

In one case, Tesco charges double the price for 10 disposable razors which are pink, while Levi’s 501 jeans for women are on average 46 per cent more expensive than the men’s version, according to the newspaper.

Maria Miller, chairwoman of the Women and Equalities Committee, said retailers could be called to Parliament to face questioning over the disparities.

She told the Press Association: ‘Retailers need to explain how they can be charging such different prices for items which look identical.

‘It’s an excellent piece of research and it’s something which the committee will be considering whether we should take further.

‘This is just the sort of thing the Women and Equalities Select Committee can consider and make sure that in this instance retailers are made to account for what appears to be price discrimination based on sex.’

In a statement on the Boots website, the company said it had never operated a pricing system that discriminated against women ‘so we were surprised and disappointed to see recent examples in the press that did not reflect our own standards’

She added: ‘I think many women will understand the point that is being made, particularly when it comes to clothing and toiletries.

‘Sometimes the difference in price is noticeable, but I think an independent piece of research like this, an investigative piece of journalism, has really shone a spotlight on how widespread this problem appears to be.’

The Times reported that out of hundreds of products its team analysed, they found only one example of a male item which was pricier than one aimed at females a set of underwear.

But dozens of ‘female’ products were more expensive.

Across all products with different prices, those pitched at women were 37 per cent higher on average, the newspaper said.

Sam Smethers, chief executive of women’s rights charity the Fawcett Society, accused retailers of a ‘sexist rip off’.

She told the Press Association: ‘These findings are shocking because they show just how systematic it is across the retail industry.

‘They didn’t just find one or two examples. Some are targeted at adults, some at children, it includes clothing, toiletries and so on it really is a wide range of products, and they found a 37% mark up on average for products that were marketed as being for women or for girls.

‘That is not just 5%, 10%, that is over a third more that women are paying for the pleasure of being marketed to as a woman. And there is nothing intrinsically different about those products that justifies an increase of that kind.

‘It is a big rip off. It is a sexist rip off and we have all just got to see through it and start demanding something different.’

MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Boots and is awaiting comment.

ugg boots boots have staying power

ugg australia classic short leather boots boots have staying power

NEW YORK Take that, trend watchers: Ugg Australia’s now classic boots in their comfy, cozy glory are still going strong after 35 years, having just celebrated their anniversary this month at all the company owned stores.

The sort of clunky sheepskin boots have been declared “in” and they’ve been called “out” many times over. They’ve been knocked off even more. But their loyal fans keep buying them.

“Have you ever tried one on? If you did, you’d know,” says Tacey Powers, national merchandise manager for Nordstrom. “They are part of the everyday wardrobe. You own a sneaker, you own a flip flop, you own an Ugg.”

The original boot style is still the most popular, but Ugg has branched out to include more fashion y silhouettes and loungewear. Home products such as blankets and decorative pillows will be offered this holiday season. Almost every item is touched, even if it’s hidden at the base of the heel, by the signature sheepskin lining.

“You have to be comfortable in Ugg. You have to feel good. Our tag line is, ‘Feels like nothing else.’ We want them to be the go to pair in your closet for everything,” says Ugg Australia President Connie Rishwain. “We don’t want to be the pretty pair you never wear.”

The peak of Ugg’s pop culture trendiness was in the early 2000s, when Hollywood starlets made them part of their uniform with short denim miniskirts. Never mind that they were cruising the sunny beaches of Malibu, Calif.

Now it’s evolved into a “Goldie Hawn in Aspen look,” says Adam Glassman, creative director at O, The Oprah Magazine, and that’s how you should wear them: with leggings and a long sweater, or jeans and a fur trimmed parka. Or like you just don’t care.

“Ignore the rest of your outfit. It’s nearly impossible to build an outfit around them,” he says.

However, don’t wear them with socks. Not because they’ll look bad, but you’ll be missing out on the sheepskin sensation that makes them special.

The Ugg backstory

The beach bums actually had a similar idea to Ugg Australia founder Brian Smith, who brought these boots from Down Under to southern California in the 1970s. They were particularly popular with male surfers.

But Deckers Outdoor Corp. bought Ugg in 1995 and saw its potential with young women. “We inherited its inventory and its customers,” says Rishwain, “but what blew my mind was the sell through. We were pretty much a fourth quarter brand, but it pretty much sold out year round.”

Ugg wasn’t going to be a one hit wonder, however, says Rishwain, who has been with the brand since the Deckers deal. With success came a confidence to create clogs, slippers and the cardigan knit boots that are almost as popular as the original. Ugg needed that depth of merchandise before opening its first stand alone store in 2006. Since the line isn’t dictated by “trends,” shoppers come back for the same thing over and over again. She compares it to a favorite running shoe.

Also, notes Powers, people always refer to the brand name it’s never the fuzzy moonboot or shearling slipper. The products are pricey, she allows, but she has no complaint about quality or cut corners. “It’s totally consumer driven. Every high end designer has done a version of Uggs in his or her own line.”

He counted three pairs in his office the other day and it’s only October. “I am probably the only person in fashion who’ll tell you how much they love their Uggs,” he says.

Not true, actually. In previous interviews over the past year, Rachel Zoe and Michael Kors have sung their praises. And it’s always a similar tune: They are for the moments when comfort counts and conditions allow.

They’re not really for the times when you’re making a major fashion statement, but how many of those do you really have?

Glassman recalls a glitzy black tie event during a snowstorm. “Everyone was so glammed up, but I was tired of ruining my fancy and expensive shoes, ruining my pants. I brought a little shopping bag with my tuxedo shoes, I switched them inside and checked in my Uggs at the coat check. It was a little awkward a little Melanie Griffith in ‘Working Girl’ but when we left, it was still snowing. I changed again, walked outside, and everyone said, ‘Wow, you were the smartest guy here.'”

I had a problem with my ugg boots and the string around the button on them because it had come off. I called a few minutes ago and asked if they repaired shoes. The man said yes so I told him I had a question. He said okay. I started to ask him a question about my ugg boots and he interrupted me and said “You have to call when we’re open or come in. It’s 8 o’clock at night.” in a pretty rude tone. You knew why I was calling and I paused after I said I had a question to wait for his response. He at any point could have told me they were closed but instead let me just go on and then had an attitude like it was my fault. If you don’t want people calling then don’t answer the phone. Or maybe he should have had his hours located anyplace online. I will NEVER go in there. Even when I’m in the middle of closing the store I go out of my way to answer the phone and help customers. Sometimes it takes an extra 10 minutes just to figure out what they want and locate it but I’m always willing to help. A man running a business should not be as rude as him and he could have just not answered if it was that big of a deal!
