Suzi Meyer, from Wollongong, south of Sydney, bought two pairs of ugg boots from Target for her daughters Ember, aged three, and one year old Raven on Friday.
The 36 year old woman said Ember slipped into her shoes as soon as she arrived home with the new pair of pink boots.
But it wasn’t until Monday when the mother of two made the shocking discovery of the ‘used’ needle after she took Raven’s boots out to cut the tags.
Suzi Meyer (pictured with Raven), from Wollongong, south of Sydney, bought two pairs of ugg boots from Target for her daughters Ember, aged three, and one year old Raven on Friday.
‘I pulled Raven’s shoes out because it was a bit chilly,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.
‘I was cutting all the tags off,
checking the shoes to see if there were any fillings inside and I pulled out what I thought was one of those plastic sticks they put in shoes to hold its shape.
‘But when I saw what was in my hand, I was in shock. I just stared at it.’
The mother said she felt relieved she had checked her daughter’s shoe before putting them on
Despite the terrifying ordeal, Ms Meyer said she does not blame the retail giant over the incident.
After contacting head office, Ms Meyer said the store’s manager was sent to her home to collect the boots and syringe.
‘I don’t want to put any blame on Target, they have been very lovely about it. They replaced the shoes after I told them I wanted a new pair.
‘They also gave my daughters toys to play with, which was really nice.
‘They [Target] said they’ve done a sweep of the whole store and they told me they were doing an investigation.’
The ugg boots were purchased from Target as the company claims the needle came from an ‘unknown source’ following a store wide investigation
Following the incident, Ms Meyer decided to share her story on social media in an effort to encourage other parents to check their children’s clothing and shoes.
‘I just wanted to put it out there to warn other parents to check everything, whether it’s shoes or pockets on clothes,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.
‘I would’ve never have thought to check my daughter’s pair of shoes.’
A Target spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the company has ‘taken this situation extremely seriously.
‘Firstly would like to apologise for the experience our customer and her family has had,’ she said.
‘Following a review of our store we can confirm that the syringe is not part of the Target manufacturing process, is from an unknown source and we are confident that this is an isolated incident.’
