Murali Vijay and Chereshwar Pujara added 954 runs in innings in this season which is so far the second most by an Indian pair in a season. Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir 961 in 14 innings in 2008 09 is the most.

India first three batsmen, KL Rahul (67),Murali Vijay (82) and Cheteshwar Pujara (130) all scored 50 plus knocks in the first innings. It was eighth instance against Australia. The last time it happened against New Zealand at Nagpur in 2010 11 when top three batsmen, Gautam Gambhir (78), Virender Sehwag (74) and Rahul Dravid (191) scored 50 plus knocks in the only innings to help India win the Test by an innings and 198 runs.

Cheteshwar Pujara unbeaten 130 is his seventh century in first class matches this season. This is the joint 2nd most in an Indian first class season. VVS Laxman (8 hundred in 1999 2000) made the most whereas Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (1964 65) and Sunil Gavaskar (1978 79) also made seven hundreds. Pujara scored four centuries in 12 Tests and three in four domestic first class games.

Pujara became the first Indian batsman to score century in this series. It was 4th century of the series. Australian skipper Steven Smith made two centuries while Glenn Maxwell scored one before Pujara unbeaten 130.
