Christy Perry, a Republican from Nampa, says she wore all black during the annual “State of the State” address to show support for sexual violence victims and to highlight the importance of women in the workplace.

Perry, who is also running Idaho open 1st Congressional District, said Monday that women who experience sexual harassment in the workplace often face worse situations back at home. She added that it important to raise awareness about supporting women in all areas of life.

Perry decision to wear all black comes just a day after almost every attendee at the Golden Globes Awards also wore black in support of the Time Up movement and as a statement against sexual misconduct.

All Idaho lawmakers will undergo “respectful workplace training” Tuesday. The training will include new policies on sexual harassment and changes on how to report misconduct.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tommy Ahlquist thanked Gov. “Butch” Otter for his years of service, but said the upcoming race for the state highest elected office is about the future not the past.

Ahlquist, who is running for elected office for the first time, released a statement Monday following Otter twelfth and final “State of the State” address to lawmakers. The speech kicks off the 2018 legislative session.

Otter is not running for re election this year. Instead,

Lt. Gov. Rep Raul Labrador and Ahlquist have all filed as Republican candidates in the open gubernatorial race.

Campaign manager David Johnston says Ahlquist is a political outsider who will bring a fresh approach to Idaho.

Throughout his 55 minute speech on Monday, Otter focused on the benefits of political experience in order to learn the proper role of government.

Idaho Democratic legislative leaders thanked Gov. “Butch” Otter for his service to the state of Idaho, noting that Otter has maintained a spirit of civil discourse even though the minority party hasn always seen eye to eye with the Republican politician.

However, House Minority Leader Mat Erpelding of Boise said Monday he was concerned Otter proposed $192 million tax cut will be balanced out on the backs of Idaho families.

Furthermore, Erpelding says Otter 12 years in the executive office has left an entire generation of Idahoans impacted by inconsistent policies on education and health care.

Gov. “Butch” Otter is asking state lawmakers to approve a nearly $200 million tax cut for Idaho taxpayers.

Otter unveiled his tax cut package Monday during his “State of the State” address.

The announcement comes at a time when tax officials are warning lawmakers that Idaho taxpayers could end up paying roughly $100 million more next year as a result of the Republican tax overhaul that President Donald Trump signed into law last month.

Otter proposal is the latest idea lawmakers and tax experts are tossing around to ensure Idahoans receive tax relief, particularly as many Republican lawmakers face re election in the upcoming GOP primary in May.

Separately, Otter is once again pushing lawmakers to reduce a key component in how Idaho calculates the unemployment insurance tax rate because the trust fund Idaho uses to pay unemployment benefits has more money than it needs to survive an economic crisis. Lawmakers failed to take up the governor request last year.

Gov. “Butch” Otter final “State of the State” address begins with announcing Idaho is in a better place than when he took over office 12 years ago.

Otter said Monday that the governmental growth has remained limited during his three terms in the executive office, but the state has made important investments with its tax revenue.

The Republican governor is not seeking a fourth term.

Otter uses the annual speech to outline his budget and policy priorities for the upcoming fiscal year 2019. This year,

Otter is asking lawmakers to raise the budget 6.6 percent bringing the budget total to roughly $3.6 billion.

Idaho Republican senators have elected new legislative leaders before the 2018 session officially kicks off.

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) Idaho House Democrats have released their personal financial information to demonstrate their commitment to campaign finance reform.

The Caucus voted unanimously to disclose the information after the House State Affairs Committee voted to kill the Financial Disclosure Bill. The bill was sponsored by republican Committee Chair, Representative Tom Loertscher of Iona. The bill was only supported by the two democrats on the committee, Elaine Smith of Pocatello and Paulette Jordan of Plummer. The bill is unanimously supported by the Campaign Finance Working Group, which is looking at reforms to Idaho Sunshine Law.

The legislation would have required candidates for state, legislative, county and city office to file annual reports identifying their primary employer and occupation or job title; all entities they own or for which they are an officer; every entity that has paid them $5,000 or more in income in the past year; each entity in which they own stocks or bonds (not mutual funds) valued at more than $5,

000; any boards on which they serve; and their spouse name, occupation and employer.

“To me, a vote was a no brainer,” said Rep. Elaine Smith, D Pocatello. “Idaho voters deserve transparency and disclosing financial information is the only way for a voter to know where a legislator has potential conflicts of interest on particular issues and votes.”

House Minority Leader Mat Erpelding, of Boise, called the vote more than symbolic. “Hardworking Idaho families have a right to know of conflicts of interest,” said Erpelding. “Transparency is one of the best ways to guarantee that our state government focuses on the right priorities to create a brighter future for all Idahoans. After all, the votes we take today directly affect tomorrow opportunities for our kids and grandkids.”

SWAN VALLEY, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) Three hundred square feet living conditions may not be as bad as you think.

Idaho couple Shane Fisher and Rachel Werner are joining the growing community of tiny home owners in hopes of renting to those passing through Swan Valley.

“You know you come to Swan Valley, you come to get square ice cream, you come to see the tree colors when the leaves are changing, but if you from Rexburg, Idaho Falls or Pocatello, and you don have a camper, you pretty much have to go home. There not anywhere to stay in Swan Valley,” said Fisher.

This tiny home took builder Phil Henry just sixty days to build. Instead of paying close to four hundred a night to stay in the surrounding area, you only paying one hundred.

Fisher offers a warning to those considering tiny house living.

“I managed a lot of projects, and I done real estate since I was in my twenties, it not much different than building a house. It the same headaches, same stumbling blocks. If they don have a definite background in construction, and stuff, I would find someone who does.”

On Wednesday, South Florida based B Hotels Resorts announced a reflagging of the hotel with an extensive renovation beginning in late August and scheduled for completion in 2016.

The remnants of the Yankee Clipper Hotel, which began as a 150 room resort, will now boast 486 rooms as the renamed B Ocean Resort. The renovations will double the resort’s indoor function space to 14,000 square feet and add a more modern look.

Privacy Policy Terms of Service Ad Choices Public FileRelated Headlines ICE agents raid 100 7 Eleven storesSAN FRANCISCO Federal immigration officials are reportedly preparing for a major sweep in Northern California after the director of ICE threatened to target California for becoming a sanctuary state.Officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement plan to arrest more than 1,500 undocumented immigrants, mostly in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing a source familiar with the operation. senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris asked to be “immediately” briefed on the reports of raids. The letter refers to the Chronicle report and the claim that ICE is sending additional personnel to California to increase the number of raids.”We are deeply concerned that rather than focusing efforts on violent criminals, raids carried out in neighborhoods and workplaces could result in the deportation of individuals who are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time,” the letter read. “We firmly believe that law enforcement must prioritize dangerous criminals and not undocumented immigrants who do not pose a threat to public safety,” they added. Rep. Ro Khanna (D Fremont) said in a statement, echoing what others in the California congressional delegation feel. “The administration is targeting immigrants to make a political statement. Immigrants are the backbone of our country and such raids will only incite fear in our communities and undermine public safety. We must stand up for their rights. spokesman James Schwab told KTVU in an email on Wednesday that don speculate about future enforcement actions. He also would not comment further nor speculate on the Chronicle source. The news comes weeks after the Trump administration ICE director Thomas Homan expressed anger over California becoming a sanctuary state, telling Fox News, “California better hold tight.”In the joint letter from the senators, Feinstein and Harris expressed concern at Homan statement from the Fox interview.Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf issued a statement following the threat of ICE raids in sanctuary cities.”Oakland sanctuary policies are legal and were written to keep our families together. our city will continue to fight against any law or policy that seeks to tear families apart,

uggs adirondack ICE formalizes plans for courthouse arrests

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it will enter courthouses only for specific targets, like convicted criminals, gang members, public safety threats and immigrants who have been previously deported or ordered to leave.

The policy, signed by ICE acting director Thomas Homan, says immigration agents should generally avoid arrests in non criminal areas of the court, like family court and small claims, unless it supervisor approves.

In March, California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil Sakauye asked ICE to stay out of her courts, writing, “Courthouses should not be used as bait in the necessary enforcement of our country’s immigration laws.”

Washington state Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary E. Fairhurst wrote at the time that ICE’s presence was “deeply troubling because they impede the fundamental mission of our courts, which is to ensure due process and access for everyone, regardless of their immigration status.”

Sarah Mehta, a human rights research with the American Civil Liberties Union, said the new policy is helpful to understand ICE’s self imposed limitations despite exceptions allowed but says may have come too late with fear already spread.

“A lot of the damage has been done over the last year,” she said.

ICE reaffirmed its 2014 policy is in place to avoid deportation arrests at “sensitive locations,” including schools, daycares, hospitals, places of worship, funerals, weddings rallies and public demonstrations. Courthouses have never been part of that list.

Homan said metal detectors at courthouse entrances provide more safety to officers.

“We’re not going to do it in the courtroom but to me it’s safer,” Homan said in an interview in November. “It makes sense to arrest a criminal in a criminal courthouse.”
