MILWAUKEE (AP) Milwaukee police say a 9 year old girl is dead after she was accidentally shot by her brother.

The girl was shot inside a home on Milwaukee’s north side on Saturday. Police say the brother is a minor and was taken to Milwaukee County Children’s Court Center.

Police say the girl’s parents, a 29 year old Milwaukee woman and a 32 year old Milwaukee man, were arrested on multiple charges. Police will present the case to the Milwaukee County district attorney’s office in the coming days.

MADISON (AP) Officials in a southern Wisconsin county have proposed a large solar energy project.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that Dane County is seeking proposals from private partners to build the project on land just north of the Dane County Regional Airport. The project would generate 8 megawatts of electricity on 41 acres of airport owned property.

The project would generate about three times more energy than a solar operation in Beloit, which is currently the largest in the region.

It’s uncertain how long the project would take, how many solar panels would be used or how much money the project would cost because proposals are still being developed.

The airport currently has two solar installations to help offset the cost of energy,

A convictedsex offender who planson opening a shopnext to a toy store in downtown Battle Creek has been told by police he cannot be at hisbusinessand has been asked by his business partner to step down.

Reece Adkins, who pleadedguilty to second degree criminal sexual conductwith a person under 13 in May 2000, plans toopen Cereal City Food Auction, at 56 W. Michigan Ave., on Aug. 26.

Major Jim Grafton of the Battle Creek Police Department said Wednesday that Adkins wastold Monday not to be in the spacethat houses his business because it is within 1,000 feet of Battle Creek Central High School and St.

“He is not within his guidelines,” Grafton said. “We’ve advised the gentleman that he cannot be at 56 W. Michigan Ave.”

Adkins’s business partner, Cindy Dian, said Tuesday that she has asked him to publicly step down after reports of his criminal past surfaced in the media.

“The idea of the business is to help low income people with food,” Diansaid. “I have taken this week off to think and pray as to how to proceed.

“I feel that the damage that has been done by the media is irreparable,” she added. “There’s no way that any business can start after this, but, if told that I have to, I will try my best.”

Adkins,a former independent contractorforthe Battle Creek Enquirer who delivered newspapers, said Tuesday thathe doesn’t know if he willstep down.

Three weeks ago, he said,aBattle Creek Police Department employee who works with registered sex offenders told him that hecould open the business because it was more than 1,

000 feet from a school.

The same officer, Adkins said, told him Monday that the shop actually was within 1,000 feet ofa school.

Grafton said the department did tell Adkins the business was more than 1,000 feet from a school. He said Adkins first told theofficerin charge of tracking registered sex offenders that the business was at56 Michigan Ave.

Adkinssaid he’snow launched an investigation into the matter. “I don’t know if I’m goingto step down or not because my investigation is not done,” Adkins said.

Adkins saidhe believes he has paid his debtto society.

“It’s something that’s behind me,” Adkins said Friday. “I’ve learned from the mistakes. I’m trying to move forward because a lot of people have criminal histories.

“It’s something you don’t need to live the rest of your life against,” he added. “I’ve done my time; I deserve a chance. I’ve been out of the community going on five years now and I’ve not been in trouble since.”

Adkins was sentenced to four years, two months to15 yearsin June 2000, He was released in 2010, returned to prison in 2012 on a technicality, and then was released for goodin 2014.

The new business, Cereal City Food Auction, also would be located next to Hall of Toys.

Hall of Toysowners Brett and Melanie Hall posted on Facebook that they were not aware that the new business next door would be run by a registered sex offender.

Brett Hall declined to comment Wednesday and referred a reporter to the Facebook post.

“As parents of young children ourselves, we understand the concerns voiced by the community and have spoken to our landlord and the Downtown Development Officer about helping that business find a location that is further away from a place where children regularly play,” the poststated.

“We believe that a solution exists that allows the gentleman in question to have a fresh start while also ensuring the families that regularly visit us feel safe. We will stay abreast of the situation and would be happy to answer any questions you have. Thank you for your support in this matter.”

Adkins tried to run for a seat on the city commissionthis year, but did not collect enough signatures by the registration deadline.

ugg button boots Severe Weather Risk Saturday Night

Fantastic Friday Weather ThoughtsIt is a beautiful morning after a wet and cloudy Wednesday. Some cumulus and stratocumulus clouds will likely develop again as we move through the day, but it is nice this morning. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) doesn have a risk for Saturday night yet, but I think they should, especially over parts of Nebraska and Iowa. Let take a look:

The dew points have been over forecasted by the models so far this season, but with south winds a wet Oklahoma and Texas to our south and the longer days we will likely see the dew points rise to near or above 70 degrees in spots near by on Saturday, as you can see above. But, again, the dew points have struggled to get this high so far this season and it would be a limiting factor if they stay under 65. And, there is a strong upper level system, very negatively tilted, that will be dropping/digging into the the Missouri River Valley by Saturday night as you can see below:

The energy from this negatively tilted storm will be passing by Saturday night into Sunday morning with a cold front being dragged across our region by Sunday morning. This has to result in an explosion of strong to severe thunderstorms in a zone across north central Kansas, across eastern Nebraska, and into northwestern Iowa Saturday evening. These thunderstorms would then likely try to form into an MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) and track our way around midnight Saturday night, give or take a few hours. We will have to monitor this development for a line of very strong thunderstorms, possibly severe in our area.

Here is a surface forecast from last night GFS model:

The NAM model came out and trended into digging the storm a bit harder. The dew points forecast are lower than the GFS model and this limits the instability a bit. The low level moisture is the fuel for severe thunderstorms. Let see how it sets up on Saturday. In the mean time we have three great days of spring weather ahead of us.

Thank you for spending a few minutes of your day reading the Action Weather Blog. Let us know if you have any questions or comments and we will go over all of the details on 41 Action News at 4, 5,

here in western KS as you call it (Olathe) I see lots of open fields. Where are you not seeing fields? Do you know how much farmland and fields are in KS? Where do you get this crap (AGAIN) about long track tornados? You frigging dangerous in your posts. You go against anything Gary or anyone here with decent met knowledge says. Yeah, Tush misspelled a word but it doesn send out a dangerous message like mg does. But then most of the posters understand not to bother with mg gloom and doom for every flippin rain storm.

I assume all those 90%ers were afraid of lightning LOL Honestly, I see the point if there alot of storm activity. But when it basically heavy rain, then why not? Again, we live in an age where people are either ignorant of severe weather or traumatized by the idea of a typical spring storm. When I was growing up no one panicked when it was going to rain. We assumed there would be lightning and some thunder. I love to go back to the days when we could expect a refreshing thunderstorm (because it wasn winter) , continue to advance warning technology to at least the extent it is in Europe, and not label everything severe.

While I do agree that during a thunderstorm and most certainly after what has transpired recently in OK, the siren should be postponed, unfortunately, we live in a knee jerk full time. At the very mention of a snow or ice storm during the winter, my boys and I watch (and make fun of) the folks at the grocery store buying like they are preparing for armageddon am with you on the fact that in my humble opinion, we, as a society, over react to everything.
